Here is a webpage about recent developments in BPH treatment
The prostate is a component of the sex organs of the male. The prostate is mistakenly called the prostrate, rather than prostate. The prostate's most primary function is to produce and then store a transparent fluid that is a component of semen, or seminal fluid. A non-diseased individual's prostate gland is a bit bigger in size than a walnut. The prostate surrounds the urethra underneath the bladder. It is also located in front of the rectum and part of it can be felt during the course of a rectal exam.
Inflammation in the prostate is a gland that is known as prostatitis. If the prostate grows enlarged it can stop up the urine stream, making urination very painful and more difficult and in extreme instances wholly impossible. Prostatitis can be treated with antibiotic prescription medications, prostate massage or surgical measures.
In older-aged males, the prostate can enlarge to the point where urinating becomes difficult or impossible. This is termed benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH. It can be treated with medicinal drugs or with operations that removes part of the prostate. One common surgical procedure used in these types of cases is called transurethral resection of the prostate (TUR or TURP).
Cancer of the prostate is one of the most commonplace cancers that strikes older-aged males and a major cause of death. Regular rectal exams are highly recommended to detect prostate cancer in the early stages. There can be also a blood test that can measure the concentration of a protein, Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), which is, in normal men, very low. Raised bloodwork PSA results might signal disease inside the prostate, whether prostatitis, benign hyperplasia or a cancerous prostate. The PSA blood test cannot distinguish between these conditions, but can be a reason for your physician to investigate more closely. Prostate cancer is treated with hormone manipulation (preventing testosterone production), radiation or even surgical measures. It has just recently been uncovered that medicines like Docetaxel could be useful in the treatment of a cancerous prostate.
Stimulating the prostate in men is typically compared to stimulation of the G spot in females because prostate stimulation can cause more powerful sexual climax. Prostate massage or milking refers to massaging motions of the prostate whether for health-related or strictly sexual purposes.
