This page is all about sex after hormone therapy for prostate cancer

The prostate gland is part of the male sex organs. The prostate is mistakenly known as the prostrate gland. The prostate's chief job is to first produce and then store a see-through liquid that is an important part of semen, or seminal fluid. A sound human prostate gland is a bit larger than a shelled walnut. The prostate surrounds the urethra underneath the bladder. It is also situated in front of the rectum and a portion of it can be felt during the course of the rectal examination.

Inflammation of the prostate gland is termed prostatitis. If the prostate becomes enlarged too much it can stop up urine flow, making urination painful and difficult and in very severe instances totally impossible. Prostatitis is treated with antibiotic prescription drugs, prostate massage or even operations.

In men who are elderly, the prostate often enlarges to the point where urinating is difficult. This is commonly known as bPH or benign prostatic hyperplasia. It can be treated with medicinal drugs or with surgical procedures that removes a component of the prostate. One commonplace operation used in such cases is called transurethral resection of the prostate (TUR or TURP).

Prostatic cancer is one of the most commonplace cancers to affect older men and a major cause of dying. Regular rectal exams are recommended to uncover prostate cancer in the early stages. There is also a laboratory blood evaluation that measures the concentration of a protein, Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), which is normally very low. Elevated pSA blood results may be an indicator of disease within the prostate, whether prostatitis, benign hyperplasia or cancer. The PSA blood test cannot distinguish between them, but can lead your physician to investigate further. Prostate cancer is treated with hormonal manipulation (prevention of production of testosterone), radiation or even surgical procedures. It has just recently been noticed that medicines like Docetaxel could be helpful in treating prostate cancer.

Stimulation of the prostate in males has been compared to stimulation of the G spot in females because prostate stimulation can result in a more powerful experience of orgasm. Prostate massage or milking refers to massaging motions of the prostate either for clinical or just for sexual purposes.
