The prostate is really a gland that is a vital component of the male sexual organs. The prostate is mistakenly called the prostrate, rather than prostate. Raised blood PSA results can suggest disease within the prostate, whether prostatitis, bPH or cancer. The PSA test cannot distinguish between these conditions, but can lead a doctor to investigate with additional tests. Prostate cancer is treated with hormone manipulation (preventing testosterone production), radiation or even surgical procedures. It has recently been uncovered that medications such as Docetaxel could be effective in treating prostate cancer.
