The prostate is a gland that is a component of the masculine sexual organs. The prostate gland is mistakenly known as the prostrate. The prostate gland's most significant function is to secrete and then store a see-through liquid that is an important part of seminal fluid. Raised blood PSA results can be an indicator of disease inside the prostate, either prostatitis, bPH or prostate cancer. The PSA test cannot distinguish between these conditions, but can cause a physician to investigate with additional tests. Prostate cancer is treated with hormone manipulation (preventing testosterone production), radiation or even surgical measures. It has recently been uncovered that medications including Docetaxel can sometimes be effective in treating prostate cancer.
