The prostate is an important part of the masculine sexual organs. It is mistakenly called the prostrate gland. It can be treated with medicines or with even surgery that removes part of the prostate. One commonplace operation used in such cases is called transurethral resection of the prostate (TUR or TURP).

Cancer of the prostate gland is one of the most frequent cancers that affects older-aged men and a leading cause of dying. Consistent rectal exams are recommended to find prostate cancer early. There is also a blood test that measures the concentration of a protein, PSA or Prostate Specific Antigen), which can be normally very low. Raised pSA blood results may highly suggest disorder within the prostate, either prostatitis, bPH or a cancerous prostate. The PSA blood test cannot distinguish between them, but can cause a doctor to investigate further. Prostate cancer is treated with hormone manipulation (preventing testosterone production), radiation or surgical measures. It has just recently been noticed that medications including Docetaxel can be effective in the treatment of prostate cancer.
