The prostate is a gland that is an important part of the sex organs of the male. The prostate gland is mistakenly called the prostrate, rather than prostate. The prostate gland's primary role is to first secrete and then store a clear liquid that is a vital component of semen. A normal man's prostate is somewhat heftier in size than a shelled walnut. Prostatic gland cancer is one of the most frequent cancers that strikes older males and a major cause of dying. Consistent rectal exams are medically recommended to find prostate cancer in the early stages. There is also also a blood test that will measure the concentration of a protein, PSA or Prostate Specific Antigen), which should normally be very low. Elevated bloodwork PSA results can suggest disorder within the prostate, whether prostatitis, benign hyperplasia or prostate cancer. The PSA test cannot distinguish between them, but can lead your doctor to investigate further. Prostate cancer is treated with hormonal manipulation (prevention of production of testosterone), radiation or surgical procedures. It has just recently been found that medications like Docetaxel can be useful in the treatment of a cancerous prostate.

Stimulation of the prostate in men is typically compared to stimulation of the G spot in females because prostate stimulation can result in a more powerful experience of orgasm. Prostate massage or milking refers to massaging motions of the prostate whether for medical value or just for sexual purposes.
