The prostate gland is a vital component of the sex organs of the male. The prostate gland is mistakenly called the prostrate, rather than prostate. The prostate gland's most important job is to first produce and then store a clear fluid that is a vital part of semen, or seminal fluid. A healthy human prostate is a little bit larger in size than a walnut. The prostate surrounds the urethra beneath the urinary bladder. One commonplace surgery used in such cases is called transurethral prostate resection (TUR or TURP).

Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers that strikes elderly men and a major cause of death. Consistent rectal exams are medically recommended to detect prostate cancer before it spreads. There is also also a blood evaluation that will measure the amount of a protein, PSA or Prostate Specific Antigen), which is, in normal men, very low. Elevated bloodwork PSA results can highly suggest disease within the prostate, either prostatitis, bPH or a cancerous prostate. The PSA blood test cannot distinguish between them, but can be grounds for your doctor to investigate more thoroughly. Prostate cancer is treated with hormone manipulation (preventing testosterone production), radiation or surgery. It has recently been discovered that medications like Docetaxel may be helpful in treating a cancerous prostate.

Stimulating the prostate in males has been compared to stimulation of the G spot in females because prostate stimulation can cause more powerful orgasm. Prostate massage or prostate milking refers to massaging motions of the prostate either for clinical or for strictly sexual fulfillment.
