There can be also a blood test that can measure the concentration of a protein, PSA or Prostate Specific Antigen), which is, in normal men, quite low. Elevated bloodwork PSA results could be an indicator of disorder inside the prostate, whether prostatitis, benign hyperplasia or prostate cancer. The PSA blood test cannot distinguish between them, but can be grounds for a doctor to investigate more. Prostate cancer is treated with hormone manipulation (prevention of production of testosterone), radiation or surgical measures. It has only recently been observed that medications including Docetaxel may be effective in the treatment of a cancerous prostate.

Stimulation of the prostate in men has been compared to stimulation of the G spot in females because prostate stimulation can cause more powerful sexual climax. Prostate massage or milking refers to massage of the prostate whether for clinical value or strictly sexual fulfillment.
