The prostate is a gland that is part of the masculine sex organs. The prostate gland is mistakenly known as the prostrate. There can be also a lab blood test that can measure the amount of a protein, PSA or Prostate Specific Antigen), which should normally be quite low. Elevated bloodwork PSA results can signify disorder within the prostate, either prostatitis, bPH or prostate cancer. The PSA test cannot distinguish between them, but can cause a doctor to investigate more thoroughly. Prostate cancer is treated with hormone manipulation (preventing testosterone production), radiation or even operations. It has just recently been detected that medicines like Docetaxel are helpful in the treatment of cancer.
